Cow & Pig
Walking through the doors of the Cow & Pig Orpington the first thing you see is the huge internal tree with twinkly lights, this is when you know you’ve walked into something very special. The decor is slick and stylish but yet it feels comfortable, the ambience is warm cosy and friendly, and the more you get to know about this brand, the more you fall in love with it.
The Cow & Pig was founded by Gavin Boyer, Chef and Owner of the new Orpington branch. Gavin and his team use the best and freshest produce found in nearby London, Kent and Surrey. Local suppliers are used as much as possible, and true to their word they are using Home Farm at Polhill and a local butchers in Sundridge Park, along with fresh vegetables from New Covent Garden, and local beer, Greenwich Meantime is on draught. It’s not only the food and drink that is local but the staff too, employing those living in Orpington and surrounding areas, also having close liaisons with Orpington College catering department and BR6 Restaurant apprentices, its all about local life and the local area.
Lets talk about the menu
Traditional Classic Comforting Dishes with a Twist
All palates are catered for, as there is something for everyone here, (including vegetarians!) from Bar snacks (including their infamous pork scratchings), to a full on a a la carte menu inclusive of Gin Beetroot Cured Salmon, Chicken Liver Parfait (amazing – tried and tested), Turkey Scotch Egg, plus more starters. There are lighter options of mains including salads and fish dishes, with other main dishes including the home comforts of Liver and Bacon, Chicken Chasseur, Lasagne, and Hot Pot, for those who want something a little more refined there’s plenty of steak choices and also the meats to choose from in The Dry Ager. Little ones are not forgotton too as there’s a menu for them, with all the children’s favourites plus the more traditional Toad in the Hole.
The staff are attentive, friendly, knowledgeable and one other unique thing about this place is that owner and Head Chef Gavin makes time to come out of the kitchen and meet all his fellow diners, what a great personal touch.
With the Cow & Pig’s approach to its polished but yet casual atmosphere, it really does offer something for everyone, whether it’s a coffee and a snack, cocktails and nibbles at the bar after work, a bottle of red and some steak, family meal out or a meal for a special occasion, it all works here at the Cow & Pig. Its hard to think where to go for a business lunch in Orpington, but now I think the Cow & Pig have just nailed it.
We cannot wait to go back and work ourselves down the menu!
We look forward to seeing their exciting patio developments, and wish Gavin, Cindy, Marcin (General Manager), and the team the best of luck for the future, (somehow I don’t think they are going to need it). If you haven’t been, go and try you won’t be disappointed.
